Bookseller Closes its Seashore Stores

A bookseller says it's closing its stores in New Jersey beach resorts because they are no longer
profitable.

Atlantic Books plans to close stores in Ocean City, Beach Haven, Stone Harbor and Cape May this fall.

A store in Somers Point closed earlier this summer.

Atlantic Books co-owner Mark Simon tells The Press of Atlantic City that the stores are no longer profitable.

He blames the recent downturn in sales of printed books.

Simon said Thursday that the seashore stores will remain open through September and into early October as long as there is some inventory to sell.  All are having clearance sales.

Atlantic Books is based in Conshohocken, Pa.
