Authorities in Essex County have a juvenile suspect in custody in the Christmas night slayings of two Newark teenagers.
Acting county prosecutor Carolyn Murray is scheduled to make an announcement at a news conference Tuesday afternoon.
The two teens, aged 13 and 15, were gunned down outside a house in the southern end of the city near Interstate 78.
Funeral services were being held Tuesday for the 13-year-old girl, Zainee Hailey. The honors student had returned from her grandfather's house in Elizabeth and was taking out the trash when she was shot.
A 15-year-old boy was also killed and another teen suffered serious injuries.
Newark will end 2013 with more than 100 murders, the most the city has had since 2006.
