Army Colonel Had 10,000 Child Porn Images on Computer: Police

A colonel at the U.S. Army War College in central Pennsylvania is facing child pornography charges after authorities say they found thousands of images of children on his computer.

The Patriot-News of Harrisburg reports that Robert Rice, 55, of Silver Spring Township was charged Thursday with 120 counts after more than 10,000 files of suspected child pornography were found on his laptop.

Cumberland County District Attorney David Freed says the charges come after an investigation of several months.

Authorities say Rice's wife was interviewed Feb. 7 and said she saw child pornography on her husband's laptop, which she turned over to investigators.

War college spokeswoman Carol Kerr says Rice is innocent until proven guilty, and will return to his job developing war games at the college. He is still an Army colonel, but Kerr says his security clearance has been suspended and he has no access to classified information.

He's being held in Cumberland County Prison; it wasn't immediately clear if he had an attorney.
