Armed Intruder Threatens Staff Member Inside Children's Hospital of Philadelphia

A former employee armed with a knife entered the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in West Philadelphia and threatened a staff manager Tuesday, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The intruder, who was not immediately named, was taken into custody and the incident "quickly resolved," CHOP spokeswoman Emily DiTomo said in an emailed statement.

She did not give any details beyond the statement, which said the incident took place on the third floor of the hospital's Seashore House building.

"CHOP security responded and the incident was resolved quickly and without injury," the statement said. "The intruder was taken into custody by police and the incident is under investigation."

Police said they did not have any further details as of 6 p.m.
