Angry Northeast Philadelphia Residents Determined to Stop Swingers Club from Opening

Neighbors in Northeast Philadelphia are trying to shut down a swingers club before it even opens.

Saints and Sinners plans to open a new location in a former catering hall on the 8800 block of Frankford Avenue in Philadelphia's Holmesburg section.

Angry neighbors packed a community meeting at the Upper Holmesburg Civic Association Thursday night determined to stop the new club from opening.

Many feel that kind of adult venue will have a negative impact on the quality of life in their community.

"You have a grade school around the corner. You have several Catholic schools here...all with kids under 8th grade. They don't need to be exposed to this kind of stuff," said resident Mary Calhoun.

This former catering hall in Holmesburg could be the new home of a swingers club called Saints and Sinners. But residents are fighting the move.

Work at the site has stopped for now.

Philadelphia's Department of Licenses and Inspections commissioner said the his staff will not issue any licenses other than those for the building's original intended use: a catering hall.
