Amtrak and SEPTA trains came to halt in Delaware County Friday morning after a train struck and killed a person on the tracks.
The Amtrak train struck the unidentified person near SEPTA’s Ridley Park Regional Rail Station along E Hinckley Avenue around 11 a.m. The person died, said SEPTA.
The wreck temporarily knocked out lighting and air conditioning on Amtrak Train 184. The train had 359 passengers and crew on board and none were hurt, said Amtrak.
The train remained at the scene as crews responded and Amtrak officials made the decision if it was for the train to continue its trip or if passengers will need to be transferred to another train.
SEPTA suspended service on its Wilmington/Newark Line for more than two hours.
No word yet on why the person was on the tracks.
