Allentown Residents Urged to Conserve Water

The City of Allentown is urging residents to conserve water for the next 48 hours.

This is as a result of two water main breaks, fire prevention, power outages, and the recent flooding resulting from Hurricane Irene, authorities say.

While the public drinking water remains safe to drink, water levels in the city reservoirs are reaching low levels.

City officials say people conserving water should take the following measures:

  • Only use water when absolutely necessary
  • Do not leave taps running
  • Refrain from running laundry machines and dishwashers
  • Do not store water
  • Only flush the toilet when necessary
  • Refrain from taking long showers

For all water leaks and pipe burts call the City’s Communication Center at (610) 437-7566.
