Allentown Mayor Suspends Senate Campaign Amid Federal Probe

The mayor of Allentown has suspended his campaign for U.S. Senate days after FBI agents executed search warrants and questioned the mayor and another official of the eastern Pennsylvania's city.

Mayor Ed Pawlowski said in a statement Monday that he wanted to focus on "assisting in the federal investigation of Allentown contracting practices." He said the campaign would be re-evaluated "once we have a more clear picture of any potential concerns with Allentown's government."

City solicitor Susan Ellis Wild said FBI agents collected records dating as far back as 2005 from several offices on Thursday and also talked to the mayor and city managing director.

Pawlowski was one of two announced candidates vying for the Democratic nomination to challenge first-term Republican Pat Toomey in the 2016 election.
