Investigators have identified the body of a woman who was found in the Allegheny River in Pittsburgh nearly 13 years after she died of an apparent heroin overdose.
Allegheny County police said Thursday the body found in October 2003 is that of 66-year-old Carolyn Roehlig. The Wilmerding woman was bound in duct tape with a plastic shopping bag wrapped around her head.
Officials say she likely had been in the river for at least a week.
Authorities struggled to identify her until last month, when Lt. Andrew Schurman says she was identified through an updated fingerprint test.
Schurman says Roehlig's son is expected to be charged with abuse of a corpse in the case. Investigators say Roehlig was already dead when her son put her in the river.
