Alleged Rape in Delaware County

Woman attacked by two men outside her Folcroft home: cops

Police in Delaware County released a sketch Tuesday of a man they say sexually assaulted a Folcroft woman in her 20s last week.

The woman says she was walking her dog outside her home on the 1700 block of Warwick Avenue around 2:25 a.m. Saturday when two men attacked her, according to Folcroft Police.

The men tackled the victim to the ground and dragged her behind a bush, she told police.

"She was tackled to the ground by two black males, one male held her from behind and the second male then produced a knife and threatened her with it and he began to unclothe her," said Folcroft Cpl. Chris Eiserman. "At that time he sexually assaulted her."

The alleged assault ended when a passing vehicle scared the men off, police said.

The woman was treated at a local hospital and released. Police say she did not report the attack until more than 12 hours later.

"It's a quiet neighborhood, there are no problems up there," said Eiserman. "The biggest problems we have are car theft, car break-ins and once in a while the occasional burglary. Other than that we haven't had a sexual assault like this in over a year."

"I thought it was a pretty quiet neighborhood," said Kim Casella, the victim's neighbor. "But it has changed in the last couple of years. It's gotten real crazy."

There was no description given of the man who allegedly held down the victim but she was able to supply police with a description of the man who allegedly raped her. He is described as a 6-foot-tall, dark-skinned, clean-shaven black man with short hair.

Police are urging women in the area to exercise caution and to report any suspicious activity immediately.

Anyone who recognizes the man in the sketch or who has information in this case should contact Folcroft Police Cpl. William Bair or Cpl. Eiserman at 610-522-1300 or call 911.
