A New Jersey man accused of stabbing his estranged wife to death in front of their 12-year-old appeared before a judge Tuesday morning, at times interrupting proceedings by loudly whispering to his attorney during an arduous hour-and-a-half hearing.
The 32-year-old Cedarville man is charged with murder, weapons offenses and violating a restraining order in the death of 35-year-old Tara O'Shea, who was killed at her Commercial Township home on Dec. 18. He evaded police for two weeks after the killing.
At one point during Tuesday morning's detention hearing, the judge asked Monell if he understands and the 32-year-old just stared back at the judge, not answering, said NBC10's Cydney Long who was in the courtroom. At other points, Monell loudly whispered to his public defender, causing court to be delayed.
At another point, it was revealed that the couple's 12-year-old witnessed his mother's death.
After the hearing, Monell was returned to Cumberland County Jail without bail.
O'Shea-Watson's family didn't make any comment after court Tuesday.
