Abductor Uses Doll to Trick Woman

Victim escaped when kidnapper got stuck in traffic

It sounds like an urban legend, but police say it happened -- a man used a doll to trick and then abduct a Temple student near the Center City campus.

The 20-year old woman told police she was walking along 16th Street near Market Street around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday when the man asked is she could help him buckle a baby into a car seat.

She walked over to help and the suspect pushed her into the car, which was running, and he sped off.

At that point two things happened -- the woman looked over at the "baby" and noticed it was a doll and the suspect threatened to shoot her if she didn't cooperate. Lucky for her, Philly traffic didn't cooperate. The driver got stuck in traffic a few blocks away and the Temple student jumped out of the car, according to police.

Police put out a sketch of the man. He's in his mid-20s and about six-feet tall with a muscular build. Anyone with information is asked to call Philadelphia Police.
