A.C. Billboard Claims City Isn't Safe

August 19th, 2010

Visitors to Atlantic City will find a billboard warning them the seashore gaming resort isn't safe.

The billboard is the work of the Policemen's Benevolent Association, whose members are facing layoffs as the city tightens
its budget.

The billboard on Route 30 west reads: "In AC, everyone wants to get lucky. With 73 less police officers, even the bad guys are feeling
lucky. Save Atlantic City, save Atlantic City police officers.''

State PBA president Anthony Wieners says the ad is a last resort.

Mayor Lorenzo Langford's administration in June laid off 20 police officers and plans to cut an additional 40 officers in
September. Thirteen retiring officers won't be replaced.

The PBA says it will expand the billboard campaign throughout the state in the coming weeks.
