Diamond Ring Stolen From Clerk's Hand

A thief made off with quite the haul after allegedly stealing a $9,000 diamond ring right out of a Delaware clerk’s hand.

The robbery happened at Del Haven Jewelers of Wilmington in the Concord Mall around 7:30 Thursday night.

The suspect asked employee Cara Kelber if he could see the most expensive pieces of jewelry in the store.

After Cara picked out a ring and held it in her hand, the alleged thief quickly grabbed it and ran out the door.

"He took it and ran, I couldn't believe it," said Cara.

It turns out the ring he allegedly took is worth about $9,000.

Luckily, Cara wasn’t hurt.

The suspect is a described as a black male with a large build and a beard who was wearing glasses, a tan golf cap and a brown jacket.

The robbery was also caught on surveillance tape, though police have not released it.

"You try to get a little bit ahead, then someone's there to knock you right back down," said the store's owner Leonard Lewkowitz.

Delaware State Police are searching for the suspect. If you have any information contact DSP Troop 2 at 302-834-2630, ext 6 or 800-TIP-3333. You can also submit tips online.
