Man Vandalized Town's 9/11 Memorial: Police

A Georgia man has been charged with vandalizing a New Jersey town's Sept. 11 memorial, including painting a beam from the World Trade Center.

West Windsor police tell The Times of Trenton that Daniil Strukov faces criminal mischief and desecration of a venerated object charges stemming from a spray-painting incident that occurred last month. They didn't say what spurred the incident or provide further details on the investigation that led to Strukov's arrest.

The 27-year-old Strukov had lived in Putnam, Connecticut before recently moving to Georgia. He was arrested there Sunday and is awaiting extradition to New Jersey, though it's not clear if he will challenge that in court.

Authorities have said Cyrillic letters were spray-painted in red along with the name "Bozhena" on the memorial.
