75 Mack Workers Get to Keep On Truckin'

Company rehires layed off staff after sales increase

Looks like the current miserable forecast for America’s economy might have one sunny spot in the Lehigh Valley.

Mack Trucks in Lower Macungie Township has just recalled 75 employees who had previously been laid off in the company’s efforts to save money. After this change, Mack will have approximately 750 employees.

Mack’s 30-percent delivery increase since April of last year necessitated the re-hiring of these drivers, whose fellow employees had been consequently swamped with overtime work.

Mack credits both the economy’s recent improvement and more business from repeat customers for the employee recall.

Employee John Kilpatrick expressed his desire for the retention of these needed employees in the future in an interview

“Hopefully they will hang around," staffer John Kilpatrick said of the rehires. "We have a lot of guys in their 20s who need jobs for 30 years.”

The employees will be back behind Mack wheels starting on June 21.
