70-Year-Old Elks Bartender Robbed

Toms River Police release surveillance video that shows part of an armed robbery of an Elks Lodge

A bartender, 70, tries to stop an armed robber who entered the Elks Lodge on Washington Street in Toms River just after midnight on Wednesday.

Toms River Police say the suspect, armed with an automatic handgun, came into the lodge demanding cash.

The bartender got into a brief struggle with the man, according to investigators, who say a 66-year-old female member of the lodge then hit the suspect with a bottle of alcohol.

The bartender and lodge member were not injured during the robbery.

The suspect, who had dark curly hair and had a blue and white scarf over his head, made off with $1,000 before running out of the back of the lodge.

Anyone with information on the robbery can call 732-349-0150 ext. 1200.
