Police ID Alleged Donation Jar Thief

A tough love gesture made headlines back in July when a mother turned her own son into police after he allegedly stole a donation jar from a Warminster convenience store.

On Thursday police identified the suspect who allegedly money out of one charity jar and stole another charity jar entirely in the early hours of July 18.

William Bocchino, 23, is believed to be the man in the striped shirt caught on surveillance tape stealing an unknown amount of money, said Warminster Police.

Police didn’t confirm that Bocchino’s mother turned him in, but they did say that numerous tips linked the Ivyland, Pa. man to the crime.

Bocchino is charged with two third-degree misdemeanors -- theft by unlawful taking or disposition and receiving stolen property. A preliminary court date is set for October 22.

The stolen 7-Eleven donation jar was supported to support charities dear to the hearts of many in the area.

One is the Wheeled Scotsman Foundation, founded in 2006 by Joe Harper, who had muscular dystrophy and wanted to help others through his organization. Joe passed away last January from sepsis and respiratory failure.

The other charity is the Christine McGhee Fund. In 2008, her boyfriend allegedly hit her with his car then dragged her about 100 feet.
