6-Alarm Fire Destroys NJ Marina Building

No one was hurt but building will likely need to be demolished

Firefighters battled a massive fire at the B&E Marina in West Wildwood on Monday.

Flames broke out around 10:50 a.m. at the 26th Street landmark. Smoke and flames poured out of the building as crews worked to put out the six-alarm fire.

It took about 80 firefighters two and half hours to bring the fire under control.

No one was hurt and investigators were looking to see if any nearby boats were damaged.

The main marina building was completely destroyed, officials said.

The building was recently renovated but empty at the time of the blaze, neighbors said.

Investigators were investigating what could have caused the blaze.

"Trying to break down the bulk of the fire to a safe area where the investigators can get in there -- do their investigation. Once the investigation is complete, it will be on their hands, let us know what happened." said West Wildwood Fire Chief William Cripps.

The B&E Marina has been a fixture in the West Wildwood community for at least three decades.
