Fifty-four dogs were rescued from a Malvern home Monday afternoon according to the Chester County SPCA.

SPCA spokesperson Rich Britton says that most of the dogs found at the home at 7 Crumley Avenue are small, full bred dogs – including Chihuahuas, bichons, shih tzus and possibly poodles.

The conditions of the dogs are unknown at this time, pending evaluations.

The owner of the dogs, Bonnie Tikkala, told NBC Philadelphia that she was simply overwhelmed when multiple dogs gave birth around the same time.

She is being charged with animal cruelty and having an illegal kennel, according to the SPCA.

“It’s never a good situation when there’s 54 dogs in a ranch house,” says Britton.

According to authorities, Tikkala was selling the dogs on eBay. A customer who went to the house and purchased a dog on Sunday reported the poor living conditions to the SPCA.
