The accident happened just before 11 a.m. Sunday morning on York Street in North Philadelphia.
Police say a 43-year-old female was driving in a Ford Expedition with three other passengers, a 21-year-old woman, a 2-year-old girl, and a 5-year-old boy, when she disregarded a red light approaching the intersection at 24th Street.
A Toyota Corolla being driven by a 61-year-old man then hit the S.U.V on the passenger side, causing it to flip, according to investigators.
The 5-year-old boy was ejected from the vehicle when it flipped over, police said. He was taken to St. Christopher's Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The 43-year old driver of the Ford and her 21-year old passenger were taken to Temple University Hospital and are in stable condition.
The 2-year-old girl was taken to Children's Hospital for minor injuries.
The driver of the Toyota wasn't injured.
Authorities are still investigating the accident.
