Four men and one teenager have pleaded not guilty in the shooting death of a 14-year-old girl in northern New Jersey.
The Record reports that lawyers for the five Paterson residents— 21-year-old Shakeem Ricks, 23-year-old Tyheem Mayfield, 20-year-old Nyje Johnson, 17-year-old Quajeir Culbreath and 18-year-old Jeavonte Dennis — entered not guilty pleas Monday in a Hackensack court.
Another man charged in the case was arraigned Monday. Four others are due for arraignment Oct. 26
Authorities said Nazerah Bugg was shot Sept. 20, 2014 near basketball courts in Paterson.
Passaic County prosecutors have said the slaying of the high school freshman was not gang-related.
