PECO: Power Restored to Center City Customers

Power has been restored to customers in Center City after problems with a transformer put thousands in the dark.

PECO officials say locations at 1300 and Spruce, 400 South 15th street and 1700 Callowhill street all experienced an "underground transformer anomaly."

As a result, about 4000 PECO customers in the area were without power for several hours.

Firefighters and PECO workers arrived at the scene tp fix the problem. A PECO spokesperson told NBC10 that they were able to restore power to most of their customers Tuesday night and power was fully restored to all customers by 1 a.m. on Wednesday.

Officials at Peirce College, which is located nearby, canceled classes for Tuesday afternoon and night due to the outages. All administrative offices at the school were also closed for the evening.

Officials continue to investigate the cause of the outages. Earlier reports of an explosion and fire at the transformer were determined to be unfounded however, according to PECO.
