4 Teens Arrested for Del. Burglary: Cops

Police say two of the four suspects were also involved in another burglary.

Police arrested four teens for allegedly burglarizing a New Castle County home.

On Friday at 2:31 p.m., police arrived at a home on the 400 block of First Avenue in Lyndalia for a burglary report. A witness claimed to have seen four people force open the side window leading to the basement of a nearby house.

Police set up a perimeter around the house while one officer and his K-9 partner approached the rear yard. Moments later police say they spotted a 14-year-old boy walking away from the home. Investigators say the officers yelled toward the teen who continued to walk. Police say the officer and police dog then jumped over a fence as the teen tried to escape. The teen then surrendered to authorities, according to investigators.

Investigators also say assisting officers from the Newport Police Department apprehended Brandon Hibbard, 18, as well as a 15-year-old girl. They were both taken into custody without incident. Police then searched for a fourth suspect, a 16-year-old boy who they say fled the home before officers arrived. The teen was located a short time later a few blocks away as he attempted to flee the area, according to investigators. He was apprehended and taken into custody.

Police say Hibbard and the 15-year-old girl were also involved in a burglary that occurred last Monday at a house on the 200 block of Second Avenue. Investigators say a laptop computer was taken from the home and was sold to a local business owner in Old New Castle. Police were able to recover the stolen property and return it to the rightful owner.

Brandon Hibbard

All four suspects were charged with burglary, conspiracy, attempted theft and criminal mischief for Friday’s incident. Hibbard was arraigned and released on $4200 unsecured bail. The other three teens were arraigned and released on $6500 unsecured bail. Police say the charges against Hibbard and the teen girl for last Monday’s incident are pending.
