4 Officers on Leave After Police Chase, Shooting

Four eastern Pennsylvania police officers involved in a chase last week that ended in the death of a motorist have been placed on administrative leave.

Chief Larry Palmer told The Express Times that details of three Palmer Township officers' involvement will not be released pending an investigation by state police.

Easton authorities say a city officer involved is also on leave.

Authorities allege that Robert Scheuermann, 39, was driving the wrong way on a township road early Friday and led them on a 20-minute chase before crashing into a utility police in Easton, after which he reversed twice into a cruiser.

District Attorney John Morganelli said a township officer and an Easton officer then opened fire, him at least once, and Scheuermann also slashed his own neck.
