Fishin' for Gators

People fish a lot of strange things out of rivers.

Police in Philadelphia have pulled a 4-foot alligator out of the Schuylkill River.

The reptile was spotted by boaters earlier in the week. On Thursday evening, the Police Marine Unit found the 'gator swimming near the Strawberry Mansion neighborhood.

Police turned the reptile over to the Philadelphia Animal Care and Control Agency.

No word on where the alligator came from, but wildlife officials speculate that exotic pets such as snakes and 'gators are often set loose by their owners when the animals get too large to care for.
