3 Dead in North Philly Fire

Three people are dead after a fire raged through a North Philadelphia home Sunday morning.

Authorities responded to a call at 2706 West Seltzer Street around 3:16 a.m. It took firefighters 20 minutes to place the fire under control.

Curtis Singleton,  26, Nyasha Vicks, 25, and 6-month-old Payje Singleton were taken to Temple University Hospital, where they were declared dead. Authorities say the adults were the child's parents. Five others have been displaced.

Neighbors say the couple recently moved into the home.

"She just moved into the house two weeks ago and she was excited," Zakiyyah Gittleson said. "She had a little dinner party last night and invited everyone over to eat. We just can't believe it, she was everybody's friend. She loved everybody."

Investigators believe that the blaze began with a fire in the kitchen. Firefighters say there were two smoke detectors in the home, but one had no battery and the other had a dead battery.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
