3-Alarm Pottstown Apartment Fire Leaves 22 Homeless

Fire officials say a three-alarm fire at a Pottstown apartment complex has left occupants of two dozen units homeless.

Officials say the blaze broke out at about 6 p.m. Saturday in a building at the Wexford Apartments in Pottstown in Montgomery County. The flames burned out of control for more than an hour before firefighters managed to contain them. No injuries were reported.

The southeastern Pennsylvania chapter of the American Red Cross says occupants of 24 units were displaced, and a shelter was briefly opened at a nearby elementary school.

Spokesman Dave Schrader says the organization provided 30 people from nine of the units with clothes, food and lodging , while residents of the other units found other places to stay.
