Father's Message: Don't Text & Drive

More than a year after Mike Kellenyi's daughter died, his message of driving without distractions is being heard.

"If you can save one life out of all this you can save another person from going through the tragedy that I'm going through," said Kellenyi.

On Thursday, Nikki's Bill passed through the N.J. Senate. It now goes to Governor Chris Christie to sign into law.

More than one year ago, Kellenyi lost his 18-year-old daughter Nikki in a car crash in Washington Township, Gloucester County, N.J.

Kellenyi says he’s convinced a cell phone and distracted driving played a role in the deadly wreck. It’s because of his loss that he now supports a program aimed at preventing texting while driving in several South Jersey communities.

Nikki's Law isn't expected to cost the state anything since it will use already existing electronic message boards to remind drivers not to text and drive.

Texting and driving is already a primary driving offense in New Jersey.
