200 Fighting Roosters, Other Animals Taken From NJ Farm

A N.J. SPCA raid on a Gloucester County farm resulted in the seizure of 200 fighting cocks.

Officials say they executed a search warrant on a farm along the 1300 block of Coles Mill Road in Williamstown, N.J. Saturday morning.

During the search, SPCA officials found the roosters, several dogs, a goat and more than 120 hens, they said.

The roosters were said to be in good health, but some of the dogs and the goat were unhealthy -- all were seized, according to the SPCA. The goat needed to be euthanized.

There was no evidence of cockfighting at the property, officials said.

Julius Reil was arrested and charged with 422 counts of animal cruelty for allegedly breeding and training the roosters to fight and then shipping them overseas, according to the SPCA.

Reil is being held on $150,000 bail.
