High School Sweethearts Killed in Crash

Deadly single-car crash under investigation

Two teens died and two others were hurt in a single-car crash in Lehigh County Saturday morning.

Catasauqua Police Chief Douglas Kish said a car was heading west around 6:15 a.m. on Race Street when the driver, 18-year-old Thomas Bono lost control and hit a utility pole.

Investigators say Bono, along with his girlfriend, Jaenis Delos Santos, also 18, were both pronounced dead at the scene.

"She was my pride, my love, everything to me," said Juan Pena Delos Santos, Jaenis' father.

The Catasauqa high school senio was thought to be home Friday night, sleeping, but Delos Santos soon found out that wasn't the case, when he got a call from police. He believes the group was out celebrating Bono's new apartment.

Neighbor Christine Anderson-Serio says she was woken up by loud screeching from tires, then the crash. "I came out in my pajamas with no shoes or socks on, came flying out here," Anderson-Serio said.

Two other passengers, Aaron Machado, 21,  and a 17-year-old girl were taken to St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem, where their condition was not immediately known.

Police say they would investigate if speed and alcohol were factors in the accident. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
