2 Pounds of Heroin Found in Man's Belly: Officials

A Nigerian man is accused of ingesting more than two-and-a-half pounds of heroin and trying to smuggle it into the United States through Philadelphia International Airport.

Customs officials say 36-year-old Clement Agbapu was detained last week after he provided inconsistent responses to questions from security personnel. Investigators say Agbapu's stomach was distended and an X-ray revealed the narcotics.

Authorities on Saturday recovered 67 thumb-sized pellets of heroin, totaling 2 pounds, 11 ounces. Customs officials say the drugs have a street value of $86,000.

Agbapu faces charges including possession with intent to deliver. He is being held on $50,000 bail.

It was not clear if Agbapu had an attorney.
