A man is recovering after he was shot several times by police in Chester.

On Wednesday, around 4 p.m., police responded to the 400 block of Hayes Street for reports of suspected illegal drug activity. When they arrived they say they found 26-year-old Steffan Trader inside his car.

Trader allegedly did not comply with police commands and tried to flee the scene in his vehicle. Trader then allegedly tried to run over an officer with his car. Police shot at Trader, striking him several times.

He was taken to the Chester Crozier Medical Center where he was treated for serious injuries. No police officers were hurt during the incident.

Trader was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and other related offenses.

The Delaware County Criminal Investigation Division is currently investigating the shooting.
