2 Killed, 2 Hurt in Separate Reading Shootings

A series of overnight shootings left two dead and two wounded on New Year's Day in Reading.

Police Chief William Heim says the first shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday on the 100 block of S Third Street. He says the body of one victim was found lying on the sidewalk in the middle of a city block; the second victim was taken to a hospital.

At 3:50 a.m., a man was shot to death and another grazed by a bullet after they reportedly stopped a man walking along the 900 block of Amity Street and asked for directions.

The shooter in the Amity Street shooting was described as a 20-something, 6-foot-tall Latino man who was wearing jeans and jacket, according to the Reading Eagle.

The Reading Eagle reports it wasn't immediately clear what led to any of the shootings. Police towed an abandoned sport utility vehicle they found around the corner from the Third Street shooting and found multiple shell casings on the ground.
