18,000 to “Kick Asphalt” at Philly Marathon

18,000 runners will hit the pavement Sunday for the 15th annual Philadelphia Marathon.

The race will take-off at 7 a.m. near the Philadelphia Museum of Art at 22nd Street and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. The race will also finish at the museum.

Organizers said there is plenty of room for spectators along the street at the start or in the bleachers along the finish line, and there are also several cheer zones along the course.

The half-marathon also is set to start at 7 a.m. The Rothman Institute 8K run is scheduled to begin at 7:15 a.m.

Also, walkers can travel the course, starting at 7:15 a.m.

Future Philadelphia Marathon hopefuls will lace up their sneakers and put on their running gear for the annual Kids Fun Run Saturday.

It’s a series of non-competitive races for children, ages 4 to 12.

The seventh annual Verizon Kids’ Fun Run will start at the Pennsylvania Convention Center at 12th and Arch streets.  The race begins at 10:30 a.m.

The second day of the Health & Fitness Expo is also being held Saturday at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
