16-Year-Old Killed in Hit and Run

Friends believe the boy may have been killed in an act of revenge.

16-year-old Jake Broschard was killed early Monday morning when he was hit by a car.

Broschard was riding his bike with friends around 2 a.m. when he was struck by 31-year-old William Simkins, according to prosecutors.

Officials say that after striking the boy, Simkins fled the scene.

The man turned himself in to Egg Harbor Township Police two hours after the accident. Initially, he was given motor vehicle violations and released.

Tuesday, police arrested Simkins’ and charged him with leaving the scene of a fatal accident.

Friends of the victim believe that the hit and run was not an accident at all claiming that Broschard was killed for knocking the mirror off a parked car.

"Some guy got angry at him and decided to kill him over something stupid,” says Shane Dunlevy.

Prosectutors will only say that they’re investigating other aspects of the incident including how and why it happened.
