16-Year-Old Investor Seeks Funding for 2nd Venture

One high school student has turned to crowdfunding for his most recent venture: DetraPel.

DetraPel is a heavy-duty water and stain repellent. It can be sprayed on any fabric – keeping users’ shoes, ties, blouses, couch cushions or car interior looking like new.

Sixteen-year-old David Zamarin developed the product’s nanotechnology formula, which is fully biodegradable and nontoxic, about one year ago. It’s currently manufactured at a lab in Florida.

Each 2-ounce spray bottle of DetraPel sells for about $15, and can be found at a handful of shops in New Jersey and Philadelphia. It’s also sold online. A major DetraPel competitor is NeverWet, Zamarin said.

Like most Indiegogo campaigns, “investors” can receive the product in exchange for a monetary contribution. Check out DetraPel on Indiegogo here. The crowdfunding campaign runs until Oct. 17. Read about Zamarin's first start-up at PBJ.com
