14-Year-Old Robs 6 Upper Darby Homes: Cops

Police say the boy admits to burglarizing homes near Lansdowne Avenue and Garrett Road.

A 14-year-old boy is facing charges in six Upper Darby Township home invasions, police tell the Delaware County Daily Times.

Most of the break-ins occurred in the Drexel Park, near the SEPTA trolley stop at Lansdowne Avenue and Garrett Roads between November 7 and December 8, according to police.

The Yeadon teen was stopped by authorities when he was spotted walking with a full backpack. Upon further investigation, police discovered that the backpack contained an Xbox, reports the Delco Times. The paper also reports that authorities say the teen had just stolen the gaming system from a home in Colwyn and was on his way to sell it when he was apprehended.

Police say that boy admitted to breaking into six of 16 homes that were robbed over the month.

“He liked the houses and figured they would have a lot of stuff,” Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood tells the Daily Times.

Authorities say the boy stole more than $25,000 in cash and other goods. They also say the suspect got rid of most of the stolen items on the street and that he spent any cash he had, reports the paper.

The teen is being charged as a juvenile.

“The important thing is nobody has been hurt,” Chitwood tells the paper.
