Officials say 14 service members were injured in a crash involving a military bus at Joint Base McGuire Dix in Lakehurst, New Jersey.

A military bus and a privately owned vehicle were involved in the accident around 2 p.m. on Saturday near Range 18 and Range Road.

Two of the people injured were in serious but stable condition and were released from the hospital following treatment. Twelve of the people injured were in stable condition and either treated at the scene or taken to local hospitals.

"It's a sad day any time there are injuries or otherwise," said Col. Charles Coursey, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst deputy commander. "I'm grateful our military and civilian first responders have protocols in place for events such as this. Those responders' actions most-likely saved lives today."

Officials have not yet revealed the cause of the accident. They continue to investigate.
