Man Dies When Truck Drives Into Pond

A driver died and his passenger was hurt after a pickup truck veered off a South Jersey road and into a pond.

Screams for help alerted police to the crash scene.

According to Vineland Police, Nicholas Sumner of Millville drove his 2000 Ford F350 off the road near the intersection of Arbor Avenue and Delsea Drive in Vineland, N.J. around 10:30 p.m. Thursday and through a wooded area before crashing into a marshy area at the edge of the pond.

After the wreck, residents in the area called 911 saying that they could hear someone yelling for help.

SkyForce10 hovered overhead a short time later as crews pulled the victims from the water.

Rescuers pulled passenger Kyle Kasper, 27, from the wreckage and transported him by helicopter to Cooper University Hospital to be treated for serious injuries.

Crews also Sumner from the truck and medics tried to save him but it was too late as the 33-year-old died at the scene.

Officials closed North Delsea Drive from Forest Grove Road to Weymouth Road due to the accident, according to the Vineland Police Dept.

The crash remained under investigation into Friday morning.
