1 Dead, 1 Injured in Roosevelt Blvd. Crash

It happened around 2 a.m. Saturday at Roosevelt Boulevard and 4th Street

One woman is dead and a man hospitalized after a car crashed into a tree on Roosevelt Boulevard in Northeast Philadelphia.

It happened around 2 a.m. on Saturday.. Police say a 22-year-old man was driving a 2004 Pontiac Bonneville northbound on Roosevelt Boulevard at a high speed when he lost control of the vehicle at 5th Street and crashed into a tree. Both the driver and the passenger, 24-year-old Melissa Baker, were ejected from the vehicle.

The victims were taken to the Einstein Medical Center. Baker was pronounced dead at 2:29 a.m. The man was treated for a possible broken leg and is currently in stable condition.

Officials continue to investigate the crash. They say that it is possible that the driver could face charges, including Driving Under the Influence.

A similar accident happened along the boulevard an hour later. Two people are in stable condition after a car crashed into a tree near Adams Avenue.
