Impaired Driving Suspected in Deadly Boulevard Crash

A woman died after the car she was riding in crashed into other vehicles along a busy Philadelphia roadway.

Four other people were hurt in the three-car wreck in the Hunting Park section of the city around 10:30 p.m. Monday.

Police say a suspected impaired driver who didn't have a driver's license was driving on 5th Street when he crashed into two vehicles in the southbound lanes of Roosevelt Boulevard in the Olney section of the city.

The 34-year-old man's passenger, a 45-year-old woman, died, according to Philadelphia Police.

"Fire department paramedics had to cut her out of the vehicle, they transported her to Einstein Hospital where she died," Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

The driver was also taken to the hospital where he was being treated. He is expected to be charged for the crash, DUI and driving without a license, Small said.

Three people in the other cars suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Small said.

None of the victims were identified.

Small said that police suspect the driver who caused the wreck was intoxicated but they aren't sure if he was on drugs, alcohol or a combination of both.

The southbound lanes were blocked following the wreck.
