2 Arrested in Delco Carjacking, Chase, Crash

The men are accused of beating up a pizza deliver driver and stealing his car

Two suspects have been arrested in the carjacking and armed robbery of a pizza delivery driver in Collindale, Delaware County.

Charles Meriweather and Janei Wells, both 18, are in police custody. The duo faces a long list of charges including robbery, attempted homicide, and reckless endangerment.

Investigators are searching for a third suspect.

Police tell NBC10 that a white Toyota Corolla was stolen late Tuesday night. They say that when they arrived they found the owner of the vehicle laying in the grass, his face covered in blood.

He told police he was delivering a cheesesteak to a home on Jackson Avenue. He says when he arrived, three black males were waiting for him. They immediately began attacking him, punching him in his head before stealing his delivery cash.

The suspects, who were unarmed, then fled the scene leading police on a chase that took them into Philadelphia, onto I-95 south and eventually back into Delaware County.

The chase ended when the car narrowly missed smashing into a police vehicle, then crashed through a fence and down an embankment before coming to rest on a guardrail, according to police.

The alleged carjackers fled the scene on foot. Meriweather -- who police identify as the driver -- was found hiding in brush near the accident. Detective say Wells confessed to his involvement when he was taken into custody on Wednesday afternoon.
