Stockton's Island Campus to Cost $100M More Than Showboat Conversion

Stockton University was forced to shift plans for its satellite Atlantic City campus, and the new project – slated for construction on the southern end of town – is going to cost $100 million more than the original agenda to overhaul the vacant Showboat casino, according to the Press of Atlantic City.

With the $18 million purchase of the shuttered casino in 2014, Stockton University's then president said converting the Showboat into an island campus was a good deal for the school, costing an estimated $54 million. But roadblocks, like a legal battle over land use covenants, prevented the project from moving forward and eventually led Stockton to sell the property to Bart Blatstein for $23 million.
