Delaware police have arrested a man who they said held three people hostage for hours in a home in Wilmington, killing one and injuring two others Friday night.

Parris Hamilton, 38, surrendered to police after a 4 1/2 hour standoff in which he shot a 39-year-old woman who was his ex-girlfriend and her sons multiple times, according to investigators.

Police said a 21-year-old man died after he was struck in the torso. His mother and 15-year-old brother were shot numerous times but are recuperating at Christiana Hospital in Delaware.

Investigators said Hamilton broke into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment around 9 p.m. along the 1500 block of West 4th Street.  The two began arguing and that’s when Hamilton pulled out a gun and started shooting.

Police responded shortly after, sealed off the area and negotiated with Hamilton to surrender.

A 40-year old acquaintance of the female victim was found on the second floor uninjured.

Hamilton has been charged with murder, attempted murder, burglary and weapons violations.
