Woman in 4-Month Coma Identified by Family

Michelle Batemen, 43, went into cardiac arrest on a city bench Aug. 13

A woman who has been lying unidentified in a coma in a Philadelphia hospital for four months was finally found by her family after they saw photos of her in news articles.

The woman is Michelle Bateman, 43, of Philadelphia, reports the Inquirer. She went into cardiac arrest on a park bench near the SEPTA Tioga station in Kensington Aug. 13. Someone made a 911 call but medical officials at Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania don’t know how long her heart had been stopped.

Bateman never regained consciousness.

Someone saw Bateman’s photo in the Inquirer over the weekend, which started a phone chain that finally reached her mother.

Bateman’s sister Sandi Williams said in a phone call with the Inquirer Monday that Batemen has a "heart of gold."

Her mother has already been to HUP to visit her comatose daughter.

Bateman does not have much brain activity, medical officials say.
