Philadelphia Police are searching for an imposter who allegedly assaulted a woman walking near Pennypack Park on Thursday evening.

The woman told police she was walking along the 8600 block of Algon Avenue when a man approached her. He said he was a police officer before grabbing the woman while trying to drag her into the park, police said.

The woman was able to break free from the man and ran home to her husband. He then returned to the street -- wielding a baseball bat -- but the alleged attacker was gone, according to police. Neighbors who saw the husband grew concerned and called police for help.

"This is the first time I heard anything like that happening in that area. It’s pretty quiet," said resident Tom Brody.

Authorities aren't sure if the man intended on sexually assaulting the woman or robbing her. But residents aren't going to take any chances until he's caught.

"I would never go by myself or walk here late," said Anna Terlych.

Police say there is no link to two attacks which happened in Fairmount Park earlier this summer.
