Rush hour traffic came to a snarl Thursday afternoon as two separate accidents left motorists stuck.
Motorists witnessed a scary site as a truck burst into flames on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Chopper 10 was there as flames shot from a tractor-trailer pulled over to the side of the southbound lanes between the Quakertown and Lansdale exits.
Flames and smoke could be seen shooting up from the truck around 5:30 p.m. Firefighters were on the scene by 5:40 to douse the flames. The fire singed the grass along the shoulder.
Surprisingly one lane remained opened allowing motorists to drive past the scene as authorities rushed to control the fire.
No one was injured in the truck fire.
Traffic was entirely stopped over a 12-mile span of the Northeast Extension due to another accident north of the truck fire. One person died in a crash between the Lehigh Valley and Quakertown exits.
Authorities continued to investigate the crash as of 6 p.m. By 6:25 one lane was getting by the crash scene.
As always stick with NBC Philadelphia for traffic updates.
