A Furness High School senior collapsed and died after participating in the Dash for Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness on Sunday morning.

Medics were at the scene when the Alvin Way, 19, collapsed at the end of the race. After being given CPR, he was rushed to Hahnemann Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses say that the senior was fine when he left school and at the beginning of the race.

A cause of death is still unknown.

Howard Nathan, President and CEO for the Gift of Life Donor Program, released the following statement Monday:

"We are deeply saddened to learn of the death of one of the runners who participated in the 14th annual Dash for Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness yesterday on West River Drive yesterday. This young man, who joined students and teachers of Philadelphia’s Furness High School to honor a young man who was an organ donor several years ago, collapsed shortly after his run of the 5k. He was taken by paramedics to the hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after he arrived.

Gift of Life Donor Program extends our deepest condolences to his family and the high school classmates and teachers at his school."
