Sunoco Refinery Should Stay Closed: Markell
Updated 12:30 PM EST, Fri, May 29, 2009
The cause of the Sunoco refinery blast earlier this month is still unknown and until a cause can be determined, Delaware Gov. Jack Markell said the Claymont ethylene complex should remain closed.
Markell toured the damaged branch of Sunoco's Marcus Hook Refinery Thursday afternoon.
Company workers have not verified the cause of the explosion, according to Sunoco spokesman Thomas Golembeski.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is probing the accident along with state environmental agencies.
The blaze shut down the Delaware portion of the 178,000-barrels-a-day refinery.
There were no injuries.
